5 Mile Interval Run

Good Morning!

It’s March and it’s a winter wonderland outside – where’s spring?!

Since the roads are slippery and the snow is still coming down, all my classes were cancelled today! I guess there is a plus side to snow sometimes ;)

I was still up super early this morning to get in a run since my teacher didn’t cancel lab and class until I was finished … oh well, at least I got it out of the way and can relax a bit until work later today :)

My run looked a little something like this on the ‘mill (adjust times to YOUR own level):

1 mi warm-up jog – increasing pace (6.3-6.5)

0.5 mi @ 6.7

0.5 mi @ 7.2

0.5 mi @ 6.5

0.5 mi @ 6.7

0.5 mi @ 7.4

0.5 mi @ 6.5

0.5 mi @ 7.6

0.2 mi @ 6.7

0.3 mi cool-down @ 6.5

Total: 5 Miles in ~ 44 minutes

My legs felt a bit tired, but I stayed focused and powered through. I felt great afterwards and was glad I completed it successfully. I’m hoping some rest today and tomorrow will help my legs recoup a bit before my 8 miler on Sunday! I’m planning for an outdoor run sine it’s supposed to be decent weather for once :)

Post-run I made myself a warm bowl of pumpkin oats and a hot cup of french vanilla coffee – I’d say it’s the perfect way to start a snowday ;)

20130308-084900.jpg1/3 cup each oats, water, and lactaid nonfat milk, 1/2 banana, 1/2 tbsp chia seeds, 2 tbsp pumpkin puree, 1/2 scoop sunwarrior vanilla protein powder, and blueberries – topped with PB and a sprinkle of granola

I have a few things to get down before I head into work for a few hours. I’m off to get this day going!

Question: Tempo Runs or Intervals. Which do you prefer?

Happy Friday!

  1. Great 5 miler! I have intervals and a tempo run every week. Tempos are my favorite though. I hate intervals!
